(April 29, 2022) Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) has failed to post its new multi-million dollar operating budget for 2022/23, even though the Board of Directors approved it one month ago. MNBC Citizens have no idea how many millions of dollars the Board is planning to spend on what this year.
Last year MNBC posted its $79 million operating budget for 2021/22 on its website in March 2021, but this year, even though MNBC is fully one month into a new fiscal year, no operating budget has been posted on its website.
BC Métis Leader Clara Morin Dal Col said, “This Board is claiming to be a ‘government’ but yet they fail to share with MNBC Citizens something as basic as an ‘operating budget’. This non-profit organization that is planning to spend millions of dollars this year should tell us how they’re going to spend those dollars.”
Ms. Morin Dal Col said, “Where’s the openness, transparency and accountability”?
She added that if and when MNBC finally gets around to posting its 2022/23 operating budget, they should also tell us how many full-time and part-time employees they now have, and how many more they plan to hire in 2022/23. It is believed that the number of employees has now grown to over 100, almost double the number from just 3 years ago. Ms. Morin Dal Col also said that they should tell us how much money in total is being paid out in salaries and benefits for staff, and for Board members.
