MNBC Board Salaries Go Up – Way Up

(November 25, 2022) The Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Board of Directors voted themselves a big pay increase in September less than a year after the last time they set Board salaries. The decision was made during an in-camera meeting of the Board just a day before the annual general meeting.

This time salaries for most of the Board, including the President have been increased 36% effective October 1, 2022. The President now earns a whopping $150,000 per year, which is more than what most MLA’s and mayors in BC are paid.

Here are the new salaries:

· President $150,000

· Vice-President 105,000

· Treasurer and Secretary 75,000

· Regional Directors 65,000

· Women & Youth Representatives 65,000

BC Métis Leader and former MNBC President Clara Morin Dal Col said, “A 36% increase is absolutely disgusting given that many Métis people, like a lot of British Columbians are struggling to cope with run-away food prices and sky rocketing gas prices, and certainly have not seen their salaries go up 36% this year.”

“These Board members should be ashamed of themselves for this huge increase and for how it was done – voting on it themselves,” said Ms. Morin Dal Col.

She also pointed out that, “Remember that each and every Board member also receives money for travel, meals and accommodation that is all tax-free. And what about committee assignments and other roles? How much do they receive for those?”

Ms. Morin Dal Col also noted the timing of the decision and the timing of making the new salary amounts public. She said, “So they make the decision on their own salaries in an in-camera meeting the day before the annual general meeting and then reveal the numbers nearly two months later buried in Board minutes.”

She said, “The decision to vote themselves an enormous increase is not only disgusting but also a blatant conflict of interest. Where is the accountability and transparency?”

. It must be nice to get corporate wages, are they worth that much? I am so disgusted and discouraged. Our voices just blow on the wind

Eileen, Thank you for your comment. How can one justify these types of salaries. Greed.
