Former President Not Running for Presidency of Pan-Indigenous Organization

(November 11, 2021) Former President of Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Clara Morin Dal Col said, “I have not put my name forward to run for President of MNBC in the upcoming by-election because I cannot in good faith support a Pan Indigenous organization which MNBC has become.”

Ms. Morin Dal Col said, “I was suspended by this Board and subsequently fired for believing in protecting our Nation, culture and who we are as true Métis people. This group did not like my position of opposing Métis pretenders becoming Métis Citizens, and after I was removed, proceeded to support Métis Nation of Ontario’s actions of allowing individuals to register as Métis citizens even though they failed to meet the national definition of Métis.”

The Métis leader said, “During my four and half years as President I was always guided by the principle of making a difference in the lives of Métis people. Quite simply, if a proposed action or initiative didn’t improve the lives of Métis people each and every day, then we shouldn’t do it.”

“This group now is rolling money out like there is no tomorrow,” said Ms. Morin Dal Col. “The millions of dollars they are announcing for everything from land purchases to buildings are dollars that I worked on getting at the national level with MMF President David Chartrand and former MNC President Clément Chartier. Here’s the reality check – the federal government will eventually begin to turn the funding tap off to organizations that are Pan Indigenous and when that happens there will be no more funding for buying expensive properties in Surrey for fancy new offices, and the Board’s enormous new salaries and benefits will come to an end because they will run out of money.”

Ms. Morin Dal Col said, “To all my supporters, thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continuing support and encouragement. You can be assured, I will not let you down. The sun will soon be rising for true Métis in British Columbia so that I can continue my work of ensuring that our Nation, our culture and who we are as Métis people is protected for many years to come.”
